- First, order the usb-serial cable with the board, you will need it as it will show you the boot sequence.I use ubuntu and “cu” command to connect to the board : “cu -l /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 115200 –parity=none” and it worked right away
- The SD card we received with the board was not working, no way to format even from my windows drive. Got a new one and installed it following instructions from here.
- If you have to compile many times you better follow the instructions here for a ssh file system on your linux pc, this will save your SD card.
- Compiling big stuff with gcc (I’m trying to compile flite 1.4 tts) you will run out of memory soon : modify make options to run one compiler at a time (-j1) and don’t use -pipe (set TMPDIR to your local ssh drive otherwise you will run out of /tmp space). I had to add a swap area but I don’t like this solution because it will burn your sd card.
What’s next ? I’ll try to put up an ARM cross compile toolchain to see if I can develop on my linux box and just test on the olinuxino board.All the best to all of you!
